Wine description for Le Mont demi-sec 2018 by Huet

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow in the glass, already hinting at the concentrated nature of this Chenin Blanc.
Nose
Fascinatingly complex and distinctly mineral: notes of flint, smoke and chalk dominate initially, almost like sea air on a cool morning. With aeration, the wine opens up and reveals delicately sweet fruit aromas – candied apple, quince jelly and orange, underpinned by iodine and subtly bitter nuances. A nose that rewards patience.
Palate
Charming and seductive with fine residual sweetness, perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. The mineral character intensifies on the palate – grip and depth characterise this wine. A subtle tannic note lends additional structure and complexity. On the palate it evokes bitter orange marmalade and orange zest.
Finish
Remarkably long and persistent, with a lingering echo of citrus fruits and mineral notes that lingers on the palate for minutes.
Terroir & Origin
From the legendary Le Mont vineyard site in Vouvray, one of the most prestigious crus of the appellation. The nine hectares comprise pebbly flint and deep green clay over Tuffeau limestone on a south-facing slope on the first plateau. This extraordinary terroir gives the wine its characteristic intensity and minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chenin Blanc from the biodynamically managed Huet estate, one of the pioneers in Vouvray. The 2018 vintage showcases the variety in all its expressiveness with 14% alcohol.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Char ceviche with orange, Taggiasca olives and fennel, monkfish saltimbocca with spicy chickpea and bean salad or strawberries with yellow peach in mint-Vouvray jelly. Also excellent with foie gras or mature Comté.
Special Notes
This wine is only at the beginning of its development and will unfold beautifully over the coming years. Be sure to decant and enjoy from large glasses at a not-too-cool temperature. A Vouvray with impressive ageing potential.
