Nose
The nose of the 2018 Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux shows its usual complexity. On the one hand, bready, doughy and spicy. Dark bread crust take shortbread and a little yeast pastry. Plenty of white pepper with coriander seeds, saffron and turmeric provide oriental spice. Peach, apricot and mirabelle plum present themselves fully ripe. Some of the fruit seems candied and expansive. Pear and quince compote, seasoned with a little cinnamon, literally pour out of the glass. Behind this, there is always the slightly smoky note of lime and wet chalk. Freshly chopped almonds, cinnamon blossom and coconut sugar provide a successful finish.
Palate
Huet knows how to ingeniously blend high complexity with a pleasantly pleasant sweetness. Flattering on the palate with a delicate sugar tail. Contrastingly cool underpinned and clearly marked by a linear minerality. The acidity drives it along nicely and provides freshness and liveliness. The sweetness never stops or falters. It is skilfully broken through again and again. Pure energy on the palate. The aromas of the nose show themselves in similar form. Brilliant, radiant and precise. In the aftertaste, saffron and turmeric continue to have an effect alongside the pear compote for a long time.
