Tasting note from from 23.08.2021, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

With only three hectares, Giovanna Marganti's La Boncie winery is one of the stars of the new Chianti. Situated in Castelnuovo Berardenga in the southernmost corner of Chianti Classico, her quintessential wines belong to the premier league of new origin-based products and defy comparison. Only old Tuscan varieties such as Sangiovese, Mammolo, Colorino, Prugnolo and Fogliatonda are cultivated.

The 2018 Le Trame is named after the rigours required to purchase the land and is made from Sangiovese, Mammolo and Fogliatonda. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented open in traditional fermentation racks. The wine is then aged in medium-sized barrels and, after bottling, matures in the bottle for at least another six months before being released onto the market at the earliest after 30 months.

Color

Dark ruby red with black core.

Nose

The nose of the 2018 Le Trame by Podere Le Boncie is like a kaleidoscope in constant change, always revealing new facets of itself. Ripe plums, black cherries and fir honey are followed by sourdough bread crust, freshly tanned leather and cocoa nibs. In addition, there are mild spices reminiscent of plum jam, allspice, clove and black pepper. Highly complex, the wine exudes a subtle lightness and noble elegance.

Mouth

The juicy fruit appears on the palate with transparent depth and combines the aromas of the nose into delicate finesse. The acidity is the all-determining moment and gives it its lightness and sunny disposition. The brightly polished tannins line the overall appearance in an animating and cooling way. A wine of enormous depth with simultaneous weightlessness and orchestral reverberation.
