Mammolo
Also known as: Violentraube (German translation), Mammolino (Tuscany)
Mammolo – from mammola, Italian for violet – carries its fragrance in its name. A Tuscan rarity that was once an integral part of Chianti blends, but is now rarely vinified on its own. The grape brings floral notes and a fine acidity, yet its greatest quality lies in its precision: no excess, no overloaded aromas, only the essential.
Le Boncie in Chianti Classico is among the few estates that still cultivate Mammolo and integrate it into their cuvées. Giovanna Morganti thus preserves a part of the tradition that has almost disappeared in Tuscany – without turning it into a folklore exercise.
