Wine information
The Riesling produced in 2006 features the markings of the famous vineyard-rich area of the Rheinterrassen, where most of the winery's vineyards are located. The winemakers, Carolin and H.O., believe that there is a definite "genius loci" to be found in Nierstein, which shows through the wine - a modern reference to the concept of terroir.
Colour scheme
The bright golden yellow is cleverly underlined by vivid greenish accents.
Scent
An initial mineral, smoky note opens the way to a bouquet of herbs, complemented by a hint of liquorice. After it has unfolded in the carafe, fresh apple, citrus, grapefruit and elderberry aromas emerge. Cool, refreshing, compact and precise nuances combine with juicy character - a wonderfully complex image of a young Riesling.
Taste
On the tongue, the 2021 Nierstein Riesling VDP reveals its playful side, it is at once emphatic and striking, invigoratingly full of expression and minerality. A wine with excellent ageing potential that will become even more diverse and exciting over the years. A testimony to the Rote Hang in Nierstein, undoubtedly unique.
Be sure to aerate and serve in large glasses.
Recommended dishes
Try it with crispy fried vegetable sticks and a lime and olive oil dip or juicy fried scampi accompanied by peaches and fennel. Another excellent dish would be lemon chicken with olives, sun-dried tomatoes and green asparagus.
