Color
The wine is bright ruby red with garnet rim and violet core, clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
Smellable warmth and, in the shape of heart cherry, soothing security form the essence of this Zweigelt. According to the variety, it is straightforward and clear. It shows its dark berry fruit freely and extensively. The fruit ranges from the freshness of a sour cherry to the mischievous peppiness of cranberries to the stolidity of a Black Forest cake. It stands for homely security and tells pleasant stories from the most diverse corners of the Neusiedlersee. At the same time, it is an honest documentation of its origin and of the year 2017, which has given the grapes the exorbitant subtlety of a brilliant cut on the way to the realization of their fate.
Palate
On the palate of the 2017 Zweigelt from Gernot and Heike Heinrich, all varieties of fruit from sour cherry to heart cherry are danced through in a circle dance, while delicate, yet grippy tannins endow the wine with a grounding depth. For all its finesse and sheer cool elegance, however, the attribute for which this Zweigelt has its heart is and remains simply one: juicy.
In keeping with the 2017 vintage, it presents itself as full-bodied and of benevolent ripeness, with grippy yet refined tannins and a bit more bacon on the ribs.
To give free rein to its fruitiness, it is best to pour at 15-16° C.
