Grillo is originally native to the flat and calcareous soils around Trapani. Vito Lauria's parcel is called Giardinello di Rapitalà and is located a good 50 kilometres to the east on the gently rolling slopes around Alcamo at 600-700 metres altitude with a northern exposure. In addition to the long, even ripening, this allows for the optimal aromatic expression of the variety. Harvested at the end of August, the yield averages six tonnes per hectare. The grapes are pressed and macerate on the skins for 24 hours under temperature control. Fermented spontaneously in steel tanks, the wine matures on its lees for six months before being put on sale.
Color
Rich straw yellow, radiant and clear.
Nose
Fully ripe with thick streaks on the glass, grapefruit, orange blossom and cedro lemon zest outline the nose of this 2020 Grillo from VinoLauria. The citrus fruit is joined by wet stones, quince and distinctive tart components reminiscent of sage, green tea and lemon balm. Powerful and concise, the Grillo Giardinello promises fruity, tart white wine pleasure.
Mouth
Bright, radiant and clear on the palate. The extract-rich fruit is reminiscent of lemon jam at its core, yet the wine is extremely dry. The delicate phenolic takes on the aroma of grapefruit, adds tart accents and pointedly adds some quince. The interplay of animatingly bitter tannin, introverted fruit and profound minerality builds up a stimulating contrast on the palate, which is accompanied by the ripe and well-integrated acidity into the viscous, herbaceously cool finish.
