Wine Description for Général de la Révolution Blanc VdF 2017 by Abbatucci
- Colour & Appearance
- Brilliant, pale gold with greenish reflections – a wine that already displays its youthful freshness and vitality in the glass.
- Nose
- Surprisingly open for a wine that, according to its producer, should only fully reveal itself over time. A fascinating bouquet of Macchia herbs – chamomile, lemon verbena, thyme and peppermint – merges with a basket of citrus fruits: lemon, grapefruit, clementine. These are joined by green apples, pear skins and white peaches. Wonderfully stimulating and of remarkable clarity.
- Palate
- Here the true greatness of this wine reveals itself. Despite the sun-blessed 2017 vintage, the Général impresses with immense freshness and expressive minerality that lends it electrifying tension. The texture is silky and creamy, yet vibrant energy dominates. Intensely candied citron pairs with salty, stony minerality – taut, agile, subtly vibrating. Sublime bitter notes add further complexity.
- Finish
- Extraordinarily long and mouth-watering, with a salty precision that invites the next sip. The minerality lingers for minutes – sensational!
- Terroir & Origin
- The granite terroir with sand and silt, facing north and north-east, provides the natural freshness and tension in this wine. The biodynamically farmed vineyards of Domaine Abbatucci rank among Corsica’s most significant.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A fascinating blend of Vermentinu with five rare autochthonous varieties: Rossola Brandinca, Riminese, Carcaghjolo Bianco, Biancone and Paga Debbiti. Hand-harvested, spontaneous yeast fermentation, aged on the lees without bâtonnage. Only 4,000 bottles produced.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Homemade tagliatelle with fresh herbs, terrine of cod and redfish with saffron jelly, parrillada with seafood and squid. Generally ideal with Mediterranean fish dishes and seafood.
- Special Features
- Named after the famous ancestor Jean-Charles Abbatucci, the General of the Revolution. A wine that rewards patience – discreet when young, it unfolds its full potential over the years without losing its characteristic tension and minerality.
