Wine Description for Gabarinza 2016 1500ml Magnum by Heinrich
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep ruby red with violet rim and opaque centre – this wine displays itself with impressive colour intensity and brilliant clarity in the glass. The depth of the colour already hints at the concentration one can expect.
- Nose
- A fascinating aromatics that oscillates between fruit and complexity. Rose hip, blueberry and sloe form the fruity foundation, whilst cedarwood, cocoa shell and tobacco leaf add a spicy, slightly smoky dimension. With air contact, a tertiary aroma spectrum unfolds: forest floor, moss, porcini mushrooms and autumn leaves lead to a peppery spice. A bouquet that rewards patience and reveals its full splendour in a large glass.
- Palate
- Here the Gabarinza 2016 shows its true greatness. Substantial, powerful and meaty, without appearing pompous – the freshness of the vintage keeps everything in balance. The tannin structure is of striking precision: fine-knit, silky, almost surgically exact. Despite its density and concentration, this wine seems to float across the palate, elegantly resisting gravity. The blend of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and Merlot is perfectly balanced.
- Finish
- Long, persistent and of remarkable finesse. The spicy notes linger, underpinned by delicate fruit and a mineral freshness that keeps the wine vibrant.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A masterful blend of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and Merlot, vinified by Heike and Gernot Heinrich. The moderate alcohol structure of 13% vol. testifies to the cool elegance of the 2016 vintage.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- With braised beef stew, game dishes such as venison loin or roe deer ragout, aged hard cheeses or duck breast with porcini mushrooms. The tannin structure harmonises perfectly with protein-rich, aromatic meat dishes.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle (1500ml) promises an even slower, more harmonious maturation. Drinking window from 2020, peak between 2026-2029. A wine that deserves patience and adequate cellaring – the original tasting note recommends stocking up generously for good reason.
