Insight into the wine

Domaine Olivier Humbrecht's Pinot Gris vineyards, situated on limestone soil, normally enjoy single vineyard status. Mostly, this wine is made from the young Pinot Gris vines planted on Clos Windsbuhl in the early 1990s. In some vintages, the decision was made to bring in additional vines. For the 2019 vintage, Clos Jebsal, Clos Windsbuhl and Heimbourg have been added, along with Roche Calcaire, a combination that has produced some exceptional, though not exclusively dry, wines.

Info on the maturing process

The aim was not only to produce a wine of high quality, but also one whose style is constant. So it was decided to vinify the wines together after they had been put at risk individually. The result is a barely dry wine full of acidity, a common trait for wines from these sites. As with the single-vineyard Pinot Gris, this was also given an additional six months of ageing on the full lees to promote more character and complexity.

Color

It shines in a brilliant golden yellow with a delicate green shimmer.

Scent

The 2019 Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire unfolds in a refined and aromatic way, the chalky notes are beautifully integrated and lively aromas of peach, nectarine and quince just call for decantation. A hint of fragrant flowers, anise and ginger are also present. The overall picture is permeated by a discreet minerality and a scent reminiscent of seafood.

Taste

It glides elegantly and creamily over the tongue, with a subtle salty note and an elegant acidity that harmonises perfectly with the fruity structure. A filigree wine and excellent food companion that develops a hint of citrus and freshness of ginger in the finish. With an excellent shelf life, it can be enjoyed for years to come. It is recommended to decant it and enjoy it from large glasses.
