Info about the wine
The Clos Häuserer is a small square vineyard of 1.198 hectares, situated on deep, calcareous marl soil directly below the Grand Cru Stallion on a gentle eastern side surrounded by hills. The Olizocene mother rock is about one to one and a half metres deep. This rich layer of soil takes a long time to warm up, which is why Clos Häuserer, although located in a very early ripening area, may have the characteristics of a late ripening vineyard. The high free lime content is probably responsible for the reductive profile of this wine in its youth. The first vintage, 1975 , still shows itself very much alive.
Info about the expansion
The 2016 vintage has a very precise structure on the palate and an incredible aging potential. Spontaneously fermented, a delicate residual sweetness remained, but it still seems almost dry.
Color
Brilliant golden yellow.
Nose
A juicy smell of ripe peach, applesauce, pears and ripe pineapple shows up charmingly in the nose. On top of that, a fragrance of smoke, cardamom and anise floats delicately, hints of broom and acacia blossom intensify its interesting scent. Interesting because the wine, despite all its charm, has a charming brittle note due to the intense limestone on which it is grown.
Palate
We also find this interesting brittle note on the palate in combination with a fresh fruit and clear residual sweetness, which in turn is wonderfully balanced by a fresh acidity and a fine tannin note. The long finish, which refers to its fantastic storage potential, holds a fine tart grapefruit note ready.
Recommendation
If you want to enjoy it at this point, you should decant it for several hours and serve it in a sufficiently large glass. A few days of opening will allow it to gain expression.
