Color
An enormously even, long-lasting mousseux initially conceals its golden yellow colour. Underneath, it radiates and is permeated by an active, fine-pearled carbon dioxide
Nose
2019 Cuvée Louis manages the balancing act between fruit and spice. The aromas of candied ginger, a hint of dried fruit and Turkish honey are initially striking. Cantaloupe melon swirls aimlessly in the glass alongside some mango. Ripe pear and candied quince are more precise and clearer in their expression. Warm brioche gives off a distinct hint of yeast ageing. In my mind, I spread this with plenty of salted butter...
Shortcrust pastry and memories of tarte tatin come to mind. Never sweet, never cheesy, but the pure temptation of its fragrance.
Nuances of dried herbs such as savoury and marjoram can still be found in the background.
Palate
It clearly exceeds expectations. But this is often the case with Andres & Mugler. Its apple-like fruit is extremely charming. Tart, fruity, spicy and full of tannins. These bitter substances blend wonderfully with the delicate melting of the carbon dioxide. After a few moments, this charming idea evaporates and makes way for its taut, pithy side. The flavour and minerality now come to the fore. Its cool structure literally cleanses the palate. The brioche and dried herbs come to the fore again in the finish.
