The Rio degli Scoggioli is a speciality. Pressed from the Barghi variety, one of the many varieties and varieties of Lambrusco, it is something of a dinosaur. Only three hectares now exist of this almost extinct variety, which was processed into spumante using the classic method. It is approved for Lambrusco Reggiano and Emilia Lambrusco and comes from the vineyards of Vanni Nizzoli of Cinque Campi, south of Reggio Emilia. The variety has always been considered of extremely high quality and appreciated for its resistance to botrytis and its high potential must weight. However, its thick skin and the resulting low juice yield slowly made it disappear from the scene. Fermented in steel tanks with a three-day maceration on the skins, the wine matured for six months in inox and then for one year with the natural fine yeast on the bottle. Only 1333 bottles were produced.

Nose
The nose of the 2020 Rio degli Scoggioli from Vanni Nizzoli's Azienda Agricola Cinque Campi almost bursts under the massive red fruit that outlines it aromatically all-encompassing. It sparkles almost wetly in a rich ruby and always appears tartly contoured. The omnipresent cherry and redcurrants are joined by elderberries and cranberries as well as vegetal notes of blackberry and redcurrant leaves.
Mouth
It is animatingly tart on the palate and shines with the finest mousseux and extract-rich fruit with a crisply dry appearance. Lined with fine phenolic, it is clearly contoured on the palate and is accelerated by the finely bubbly carbonic acid, which also bugs it aromatically in the tart direction. Stimulatingly mature Lambrusco for serious food pairing.
