Colour & Appearance

A luminous, deep cherry red – clear and with youthful intensity in the glass. No doubt about it: there’s energy here.

Nose

The nose is complex, idiosyncratic and deeply characterful. Wild cherry, raspberry and redcurrant meet a dark cassis foundation. Yet what truly sets this wine apart is its untameable, almost animalistic nature: a hint of horse sweat, warm leather, a delicately smoky undertone. Those who prefer their Bordeaux well-behaved and polished will be challenged here – and rewarded. Bergamot and lavender open unexpected, aromatic doors. Add to this wintry spice: cinnamon plum, juniper, black pepper. With air, dark chocolate emerges, supported by roasted coffee beans. A cool, metallic note holds everything linear and taut together.

Palate

The palate confirms the nose without detour. Astringent, gripping, with present but well-integrated tannin. A subtle green note and slight sharpness recall the Cabernet Franc’s provenance. An elegant graphite note brings coolness and finesse. The acidity is the conductor: precise, invigorating, structure-giving. The fruit – fine-grained, slightly tart – clings persistently to the palate and returns in the finish with the characteristic bergamot.

Finish

Long, spicy, with lingering fruit and a cool, mineral aftertaste. This wine doesn’t let go of you quickly – and that’s certainly meant as a compliment.

A classic Bordeaux ensemble of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, ripened on the clay-rich hills of the Côtes de Bourg. The vintage 2019 brought ripe fruit material with retained freshness – ideal conditions for this expressive, unpolished character.

Classic and convincing: Côte de Boeuf with pommes allumette and Béarnaise sauce or braised beef cheeks with creamed savoy cabbage and mashed potatoes. For something lighter: A warm bulgur salad with artichokes and rocket surprisingly hits the wine’s herbal, spicy side well.
