Wine information
The Vigneti del Versante is that Brunello which was the vintage Brunello up to and including 2009. It actually comes from the vineyards Pian dell'Orino, Pian Bassolino, Vigna Scopeta and Vigna Cancello. In 2014, however, it comes exclusively from the Vigna Scopeta vineyard, which, thanks to its mesoclimatic position, produces beautiful healthy grapes just in humid and wet years, which can fully ripen here without any problems. In hot and dry years, however, the grapes in this vineyard have to be harvested rather earlier. V After hand sorting, the grapes were pre-fermented in a cool place for a few days before spontaneous fermentation began in stainless steel tanks. The must remained in the fermenter for over three weeks and then went into classic 25-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for aging. After three years of aging, the Brunello was bottled unfiltered and slightly sulfured to age for another year in the cellar. From Vigneti del Versante In 2014, 1,487 bottles and 83 magnums were produced.
Nose
The 2014 Vigneti del Versante is a fascinating and very special wine in its own way; because the parcel from which this wine comes has masterfully coped with the difficult 2014 vintage, resulting in a profoundly impressive Brunello could arise. The wine still seems slightly yeasty on the nose - no wonder, it is still very young. After the yeast comes the cherry, the sour cherry above all, then forest berry confit, tobacco, undergrowth and finally a note of chalk and lime on the one hand and iron on the other.
Palate
On the palate, there is a wonderful balance of the cool and humid conditions of the vintage. The warmth of the vineyard is palpable, which is also inherent in the wine. The tannin still plays the defining role at this point. It is ripe, grippy and really grabs hold. The acidity permeates the Brunello along with its dark fruit with liveliness and freshness. Sour cherries are present here, as well as Morello cherries, which bring a touch of sweetness to the wine. Finally, a deep minerality shows up, which once again clearly contributes to the overall complexity. This is very strong and gives a lot of pleasure.
