Information
The fruit of this Brunello di Montalcino comes from the 1.2 hectare Vigna della Piaggione, located from 420 to 450 metres above sea level and characterised by limestone soils rich in skeletons. The Sangiovese was harvested at 38 hl/ha. The berries were fermented spontaneously at up to 28 °C and then gently pressed. The wine was aged for three years in barrels of 10, 20 and 40 hl. Afterwards, it was bottled unfiltered and stored in the bottle for another twelve months.
Color
dense ruby red
Nose
Salicutti's Piaggione 2016 is a characterful, powerful and fruit-driven wine that opens with notes of black and sour cherries, plums and wild strawberries. Besides the fruit, the Brunello is characterised by cornflowers, some violets, rosemary and liquorice, a hint of dried wood, cinnamon and cool stone.
Palate
On the palate the Piaggione Brunello di Montalcino Open, inviting, generous and almost lavish in its ripe and juicy dark fruit, which remains crisp, tight and firm at the same time and also sensual. The wood is used in moderation and already very well integrated, the tannin seems fine-grained with a fine resistance and yet almost polished and silky. All this combines with a fine acidity and minerality that integrates precisely and harmoniously and infuses the wine with energy.
