For the Rosato di Ampeleia, around 20% whole bunches of Alicante Nero are added to the must of Carignano grapes. The grapes come from plots at 250 metres above sea level on reddish-brown clay/sand/limestone soils with round pebbles and reflect the exceptional soil diversity of the area. Matured for six months in concrete tanks, the Rose de Ampeleia wine with a slender 11% offers an unrepentant start to the evening.
Color
Light garnet red with a slightly silky opacity.
Nose
Outlined by tart red fruit and with a floral top note, the 2022 Rosato di Ampeleia flows into the glass. Crowned with a youthful, yet trendy reductive note, the fruit moves along the spectrum of red and white currants, sour cherries and cornell cherries, hollyhocks and a little mallow outline the floral accents. Fresh kitchen herbs such as chervil and sorrel are added, underpinned by fluffy pastry notes of warm yeast plait.
Mouth
Controlled by the fine-grained, almost powdery tannin, the fruit cascades of the nose are disciplined directly on the palate and condensed into a serious wine. Taut with a pithy acid bite and a distinctively tart character, it definitely transcends the aperitif situation and calls for harmless food in good company.
