Ypsilon is a tribute to the Lipari Islands off Sicily. The seven-part archipelago forms a Ypsilon on the map.
Color
Dark cherry red, light rim
Nose
The commitment to the homeland is obtained from Corinto, Nero d'Avola and Alicante. Warm leather, cedar and a little pipe tobacco waft from the glass. Cranberry compote, baked plums and red fruit tea march in second. Roasted almonds, marzipan, baked apple and cinnamon seem wintry in combination, but fit very well into the spectrum. A little cocoa butter rounds off the nose.
Palate
Surprisingly, the Rosso from the south of Italy has only 12.5% Vol. It seems light-footed and filigree. The fruit is dark and spicy here as well, but anything but heavy. It shows itself bloody and juicy. Despite all the spiciness, it lives on finesse and drinking flow. Great that a wine like this can grow at such latitudes. The acidity enlivens the finish increasingly and the fine tannin melts away completely on the palate.
Food recommendations from Marian Henß
- Duck legs from the oven, red cabbage, bread dumplings
- Lamb stew with bean cassoulet and papas arrugadas
- Beetroot from the oven with parsley pesto and roasted pine nuts
