Tasting note from from 29.09.2022, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Domaine Les Bruyères was founded in 1955 by Georges Reynaud. Until 2002, the grapes were sold to the local cooperative, when his grandson David took over the business and completely turned it around. He switched to organic and biodynamic farming and banned everything from the cellar that contradicted his concept of an originally produced wine. The farm is located on the banks of the Isère in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation and today covers 20 hectares of vines.

Color

Light straw yellow with green reflections.

Nose

The 2021 Les Monestiers from David Reynaud's Les Bruyères smells archetypal of stone fruit such as white peach, green apricots and some Charentais melon. The initial impression of joyful juiciness is underpinned by striking mineral notes that attest to a certain saltiness. The scent of mild spices in the top note hovers over everything.

Mouth

On the nose, the wine surprises with its profound minerality and unbelievable discipline. Polished and straightforward, it is defined by its stony character, to which everything else subordinates itself willingly. The fruit retreats into the rich extract, the acidity is firmly woven into the wine's densely woven structure. For all its stature and size, it still comes across as juicy and light-hearted. A chameleon that plays to its strengths at the table.
