  • The Siuralta Orange 2021 from Vins Nus is a taut, skin-fermented Grenache Gris from the cool, high-altitude vineyards of Catalonia’s Montsant. Alfredo Arribas creates an uncompromisingly fresh orange wine here, impressing with its austere texture and vibrant acidity.
  • 🎨 Colour: Cloudy orange-gold with sparkling highlights.
  • 👃 Aroma: Initially slightly reductive with notes of gunpowder, followed by warm pastries, Tarte Tatin, orange blossom, ripe banana and exotic fruit accents.
  • 👅 Taste: On the palate it is austere, taut and tactile, with an impetuous drive, lively freshness and a slender stature.
  • 🎭 Character: Mobile, shape-shifting and weightlessly light – an invigorating entry-level orange wine that benefits from a bit of air in the decanter.
  • 🍽️ Food Pairing: Pairs brilliantly with fried prawns with curry aioli, fennel and orange salad with pistachios, or linguine with a lemon and cream sauce.
  • ✨ Special Features: Single-varietal Grenache Gris aged in amphorae, grown at over 700 metres elevation on yellow clay soils with no added sulphur.

Wine Tasting Notes for Siuralta Orange 2021 by Vins Nus

Colour & Appearance
Hazy orange-gold with sparkling highlights.
Nose
Initially displaying striking reduction: gunpowder and cap gun caps meet the warmth of Tarte Tatin, caramelised quince and freshly baked apples out of the oven. These are accompanied by shortcrust pastry, bread crust and refreshing orange blossom. Exotic notes of mango, pineapple and ripe banana combine with toasted almonds over a cool, stony foundation.
Palate
Right from the first sip, it convinces with noticeable grip and vibrancy. Fermented completely dry, it presents itself as lean, taut and pleasantly untamed – reminiscent of fresh, sparkling apple spritzer in the best possible sense. A wine with a slender frame and 12.5% ABV, which feels weightlessly light and gains tremendous drinkability after a little time in the decanter.
Terroir & Origin
A cool counterpoint to the weight of neighbouring Priorat: The vines grow in north-western Montsant near Cornudella del Montsant and Siurana at an altitude of 700 to 820 metres. North-facing hillside sites on yellow clay soils and cool mountain nights ensure a vibrant acid structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Crafted from the rare Grenache Gris. Following a short maceration, the wine matures in amphorae. The addition of sulphur or controlling oak influence is strictly avoided.
Food Pairings
Outstanding with linguine with lemon and cream sauce and king oyster mushrooms, seared prawns with curry aioli or a fresh fennel and orange salad with pistachios.
Key Characteristics
Architect Alfredo Arribas’ project carries the name Vins Nus – “naked wines”. The Siuralta Orange is a fascinating entry into the world of skin-contact wines: terpene-rich, subtly oxidative in style and defined by uncompromising freshness.
