Wine information:
The wine we have on our table today comes from Adrien Roustan's vineyard in Gigondas, which spreads its vineyards over five parcels in Grand Montmirail. The sites range from 400 to 520 metres above sea level. The soil in the lower sites is characterised by red marl, while the middle and higher sites have a stronger limestone content. These 4.5 hectares of vines were planted in 1975 and consist of 70 % Grenache, 20 % Syrah and 10 % Cinsault. The process for making this wine involves destemming and crushing the grapes, followed by a quick fermentation. The ageing takes place in concrete.
Color:
The drink presents itself in a medium purple red.
Scent:
This Gigondas from Adrien Roustan impresses with a fragrant cocktail of dark elements such as plums, meat, some tar and olive tapenade, complemented by dark raspberries and herbs. It is hard to miss that Syrah plays a significant role. Furthermore, notes of liquorice, which is characteristic for Grenache, as well as hints of undergrowth and foliage can be detected.
Taste:
On the palate, the wine scores with juicy, dark berry fruit and soft tannins, with Syrah again prominent. The wine's defining vibrant energy is complemented by impressions of stone and coolness that give it a special touch. This wine is definitely a sensual representative of the place it comes from - the garrigue and herbs combine with the round fruit and fine texture of the wine.
Food recommendations:
This expressive and balanced wine would go well with coq au vin, ratatouille or a roast pork with rosemary and garlic.
