Wine Description for Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru „Les Jarrons“ AOC 2023 by Bruno Clair

Character
A classic Premier Cru of the Côte de Beaune – precise, transparent and characterised by that quiet elegance which has distinguished the House of Bruno Clair for decades. Not a wine that impresses through loudness, but one that convinces through finesse, depth and coherence. The moderate alcohol content of 13.5% vol. underscores the balance and the artisanal ambition of the house.
Terroir & Origin
Savigny-lès-Beaune lies nestled in the valley of the Rhoin, flanked by the great appellations of Pernand-Vergelesses and Beaune. The vineyard site „Les Jarrons“ counts among the esteemed Premiers Crus of the village and benefits from calcareous-clay soils on gently sloping hillsides with good south-easterly exposure. The Burgundy 2023 was a warm, early-ripening vintage with exceptional aromatic maturity – a challenge for winemakers who prioritise freshness and terroir expression over opulence. Bruno Clair is among those who master this balancing act.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Noir – the only red grape variety of Burgundy and one of the most demanding in the world. In the hands of Bruno Clair, whose winery is based in Marsannay and whose philosophy rests on minimal intervention, careful hand-harvesting and gentle cellar work, Pinot Noir unfolds its typical spectrum: red fruits, subtle spice, silky tannins. The ageing takes place traditionally in barrique, with the proportion of new oak deliberately kept restrained in order to let the terroir speak.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to classical cuisine. Excellent with Coq au Vin or Boeuf Bourguignon, equally convincing alongside grilled lamb rack with herbs of Provence. Game birds, duck breast or a mature Époisses from the Burgundian neighbourhood also harmonise beautifully. For those who prefer simplicity: a good roast chicken with jus is often the most honest companion for a wine of this calibre.
