Colour & Appearance

Luminous, deep violet-red with youthful intensity – remarkable for a wine with over six years of barrel maturation.

Nose

An olfactory fireworks display: Initially intense notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and morello cherry, complemented by cooling hints of eucalyptus and wild mint. With air contact, a fascinating complexity unfolds – dark chocolate, Kampot pepper, earthy undertones of porcini mushrooms, beetroot and truffle. Almost ethereal in its depth, an aromatic profile that impressively underscores the wine’s extraordinary maturation in wooden cask.

Palate

Powerful yet elegant: The saline-spicy texture harmonises perfectly with the juicy dark fruit. A refreshing acidity structure carries the wine, whilst perfectly integrated, mature tannins provide grip and length. Impressive balance between concentration and finesse – precisely what one expects from old vines.

Finish

Long, spicy and persistent with fine minerality and lingering fruit echoes.

Terroir & Origin

From various vineyard sites in South Styria with characteristic weathered soils. The vines – between 12 and 45 years old – deliver the concentration and complexity that distinguish this wine.

Grape Variety & Vinification

An unconventional yet convincing blend of 50% Zweigelt and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Following spontaneous fermentation, it matured for an extraordinary 80 months in wooden cask – a bold decision that pays dividends in depth and complexity.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Served slightly chilled with robust dishes: beef sirloin steak with herb butter, braised duck leg with red cabbage and truffle or surprisingly harmonious aubergine lasagne. The wine pairs well with powerful flavours and roasted notes from the grill as readily as with slowly braised meat dishes.
