Wine Description for Sekt Brut Nature Grosse Reserve Blanc de Blancs by Tement

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with luminous reflections and persistently fine bubbles, testament to the extended bottle fermentation.
Nose
Precise and reductive: lime zest, Granny Smith apple skin and lemon balm dominate the opening. With air contact, apricot kernels and notes of salted butter on toast emerge, with a hint of greengage jam. Sinewy, taut, seductive.
Palate
A laser beam amongst Austrian sparkling wines – crystal clear, vibrant, precise. Despite 30 months on the lees, this Blanc de Blancs remains focused and tension-laden. The reductive fruit is carried by a saline backbone, the pressure is impressive, the drinking flow effortless. With just 0.7 grams of residual sugar, bone-dry and bottled without additional sulphur – pure, unadorned expression.
Finish
Long, taut, mineral. The acidity carries far, saline notes linger without ever becoming heavy or intrusive.
Terroir & Origin
The vines for this extraordinary sparkling wine are rooted in Ehrenhausen on blue and brown calcareous marl soils – a terroir that imparts tension and minerality. The vines range from 20 to 55 years old and deliver concentrated, characterful fruit.
Grape Variety & Vinification
85% Chardonnay (called Morillon in Austria), 15% Pinot Blanc. Following spontaneous fermentation, the wine aged 50 months in neutral oak, followed by a further 30 months on the lees in bottle – nearly seven years of development in total. Disgorged in April 2022, Brut Nature dosage.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Goat’s cheese crostini with gooseberry and tarragon confit, swordfish ham with orange and sage vinaigrette or Scaloppine al Limone – the sparkling wine pairs beautifully with bold flavours and acidity in the dish.
Special Features
A statement sparkling wine that establishes South Styria as a serious source for quality sparkling wines. Tement’s answer to Champagne and Franciacorta – with its own distinctive character.
