Wine information

The wines from the Ried Zieregg vineyard are the ones that have made the Tement winery world-famous. Zieregg is the Tements' home vineyard, situated at an altitude of 330 to 490 metres and characterised by different types of limestone such as coral shell limestone, limestone weathering and limestone marl, each with quite thin layers of clay. The microclimate of this site, in combination with the soils and the more than 40-year-old vines, produces wines with high and elegant aromas and a unique ageing potential, to which the organic, very elaborate farming methods contribute their share. The Sauvignon Blanc was left to macerate for two days, fermented spontaneously to 1.1 grams of residual sugar with 6.4 grams of acidity and matured for 24 months in large neutral wooden barrels on the fine lees, then bottled unfiltered.

Nose

The nose already reveals the Zieregg the exceptional 2019 vintage in its elegance and complexity, in its fine spiciness and its intense but never loud fruit. This is a Sauvignon Blanc that seems cool and stony, smelling of herbs and foliage, of limequats and lemongrass, of lemon balm, mint and salt lemon, sage and a little of cassis and gooseberry. It all seems incredibly dense, complex and yet somehow relaxed and at peace with itself.

Palate

The palate develops the Zieregg an enormous tension, distant pressure and a smoky minerality of flint and salt stone. In general, the salt, this minerality, this vibrancy that the wine possesses is already great, even though it is still very young and has potential for 30 or more years. On the palate, there are also lemons, some light pome and stone fruit, herbs as well as grapefruit residues with tart and spicy notes. All this coolness and minerality revolves around a warm, inviting and charming core and seems like a galaxy of its own in the vast cosmos of the many Sauvignon Blancs of this world. The wine already shows greatness, but it will still grow, and there will certainly not be many wines from this grape variety that come close to it in this vintage.
