Wine Description for Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2024 by Le Chiuse

Character
The Rosso di Montalcino from Le Chiuse embodies the accessible side of the renowned vineyard terroir south of Siena. As the younger sibling of the legendary Brunello, this wine offers the characteristic elegance of Sangiovese in a fresher, more immediate form. Le Chiuse, a traditional winery with modest production, stands for artisanal precision and respectful stewardship of Montalcino’s unique terroir.
Terroir & Origin
Montalcino lies in the heart of southern Tuscany, where maritime influences from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea meet continental climate. The vineyards benefit from calcareous soils with Galestro and volcanic components, which lend Sangiovese its characteristic mineral tension. The elevated sites between 300 and 500 metres ensure cooler nights and thus the distinctive freshness and finesse that sets Montalcino wines apart from other Tuscan Sangiovese wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Sangiovese, here in its local expression known as Sangiovese Grosso, reveals itself in Rosso di Montalcino with youthful vitality. Unlike Brunello, which prescribes longer ageing periods, Rosso may be released after just one year. This preserves the vibrant fruit and crisp acidity structure that makes Sangiovese so food-friendly. The moderate alcohol content of 13% underscores the commitment to drinkability and elegance rather than opulence.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A classic companion to Tuscan cuisine: excellent with Pasta al Ragù, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, grilled vegetables or Pecorino cheese at various stages of maturity. The vibrant acidity harmonises beautifully with tomato-based dishes, whilst the fine tannins prove their worth with game dishes or mushroom risotto. A versatile everyday table wine.
