Information

The Rosso di Montalcino has been available in a new design since 2017. The label shows the Cosmo di Salicutti, i.e. the house, cellar and courtyard as the centrepiece with gardens, fields, forest and the adjacent crus named Vigna della Sorgente, Piaggione and Teatro. The fruit of the Rosso in 2018 came from the Vigna della Sorgente and Piaggione sites. The yield was 25 hl/ha. The berries were fermented spontaneously at up to 28 °C and then gently pressed. The wine was aged for 18 months in tonneaux and 5-hl and 10-hl barrels. Afterwards, the wine was bottled unfiltered and kept in the bottle for another six months.

Nose

Salicutti's Rosso di Montalcino offers an inviting melange of fruit, floral elements and earthy as well as spicy components. Cherry jam with star anise, wild strawberries, young and fresh as well as compote, make the start. They are accompanied by cherry stones with their bitter almond note, by a little milk chocolate, the juice of blood oranges, dry herbs and fine woody notes.

Palate

On the palate, the wine already offers great drinking pleasure. There is a sweet fruit core around which the small universe of this wine revolves. Sweet cherries, ripe wild strawberries and a few raspberries combine with fresh acidic notes of cranberries and pomegranate juice. Grouped around these are earthy notes and undergrowth, cinnamon and chocolate. It is a positively voluptuous Rosso in its balance of supple round fruit, warmth and tannic structure as well as the acidity and minerality that flash up again and again.
