Info

The "Falkenlay" parcel lies between "Fahrlay" and "Rothenpfad". The soil here is somewhat deeper and characterised by grey slate. This area was always considered by the old winegrowers to be the fillet piece of the Marienburg. Protected by its special location from the cold winds from the mountain saddle to the east, the grapes always reach a special ripeness here. The wines from the healthy grapes are fruity, creamy and not only particularly full-bodied, but also finely mineral.

Nose

The 2021 Riesling Großes Gewächs from the Marienburg Falkenlay plot pours out a cornucopia of fresh herbs with the first encounter. Lemon balm, sage and parsley are at the forefront. Lemon thyme and coriander as well as peppermint push forward from the second row. A little reminiscent of visits to the market on rainy days or even Frankfurt Green Sauce delightful! With time and air, lemongrass and coriander come out even more clearly. So besides Frankfurt, this is also a trip to the markets of Vietnam. Fennel, aniseed as well as some fennel seed give it corners and edges in the same colouring. It shows depth and finesse. Wet stones present themselves next to earthy spice and thus the bridge to its origin is built. Lime, white peach and unripe pear provide only a shy note of fruit.

Palate

Like a cold mountain stream, it flows over the palate. Numerous wild herbs grow along its banks. This is its first impression after a longed-for, strong sip. It shows bite and grip. The typically pronounced phenolic structure of Clemens Busch's wines leads the way and shows the way. I have rarely been able to taste such a coherent collection. In 2021, Clemens Busch has set the bar high for dry Mosel Rieslings. Taut, demanding, sexy and expansive. Fruit does not really play a role. It's all about depth, length and aromatic maturity. Outstanding.
