Shiny, sunny gold
Nose
The 2018 Marienburg Riesling "Felsterrassen" Große Lage, holds back at the beginning, presenting itself rather shyly, hiding its depth and diversity. Notes of pebbles and minerals initially come to the fore. But after some time in the glass, it lets its full fragrance unfold: Oranges, apricots, ripe apple, candied ginger and star anise unfold. Gentle hints of lime blossom and fresh garden herbs elegantly weave themselves in.
Palate
Fresh fruit, lively natural sweetness and graceful acidity interact on the palate. Smoky and stony undertones are equally present. The finish is marked by a subtle bitterness that combines with the graceful fruit to create a thoroughly invigorating finale. This is a wine that demands your full attention and needs time to blossom its full glory. If you decide to enjoy it now, be sure to open it early and decant it.
As an alternative to the original food suggestions, this Riesling would also go perfectly with smoked salmon on brown bread with fresh dill, summer risotto with lemon and mint garnished with fresh peas, or a classic coq au Riesling.
