Info about the wine
Olivier Humbrecht
About a decade earlier, the decision was made not to continue using the Gewürztraminer grapes grown in the eastern part of the Hengst Grand Cru. They never found their way into the production of the Grand Vin. Nevertheless, the clonal selections of the time were inadequate and did not produce a wine that could do justice to the complex depth of old vines. After a long period of 30 growing seasons and ongoing challenges with vine diseases, we decided to refocus. With the continual change in climate, Riesling became the obvious choice on the red limestone of Hengst.

Info on the expansion
In 2016, we drew a careful selection of our old Riesling vines from the burn for the new planting. The 2021 vintage presents itself as the phenomenal debut of this wine. Separating the processing of this vineyard from previous vintages allowed us to accurately observe the character and evolution of the wines, which consistently displayed impressive acidity measurement and precision.

Color
Bright golden yellow.

Nose
Its aroma is dominated by crystal-clear minerality and profound concentration - with extensive aeration, fragrance nuances of orange, orange peel and grapefruit slices, bergamot, dried oyster shell and soy sauce reveal themselves; an exciting feast for the olfactory senses.

Palate
2021 Stallion explodes on the palate with an impressive, cutting acidity that pleasantly stimulates salivation. Its salty character covers the tongue like a carpet and leaves an endless reverberation, marked by a striking spice aroma and powerful tannin structure. The wine shows itself precise and almost full-bodied - a character that will unfold its full splendour in the years to come. Opening it for several days will improve its quality even more. Excellent ageing potential.

Decanting is highly recommended and should be enjoyed in a larger glass and not too cool.

Alternatives to the food recommendation
Baked tofu with mushroom selection, refined with olive oil and soy sauce
Prawn with roasted cauliflower in miso, complemented with salt lemon reduction and dried tomatoes
Salmon dish wrapped in mango leaf, served with mango sauce and quinoa in fresh basil.
