Terroir information
The cornerstone of this VDP.GUTSWEIN lies in agricultural parcels that are labelled VDP.GROSSE or VDP.ERSTE LAGE, which therefore gives it an unintended sophistication. The strict criteria for the production of site wines contribute the essential to the quality of this VDP.GUTSWEIN.
Using an organic farming method since 2006, the Rebholz winery promotes complex, biodynamic relationships within the "vineyard ecosystem" within its vineyards. The result is a wine with more individuality, underlined by improved sustainability in the impressive cultural landscape of the Palatinate vineyards.
The condition for GRAND wines are old vines, which are tended with much time and effort to maintain their youthfulness and vitality. Variations in the soil around Siebeldingen, due to tectonic movements and the elevation of the Palatinate Forest, give the shell limestone terroir a unique texture - the best condition for all great Burgundies/Pinots.
Expansion information
Only the healthy and perfectly ripe grapes were harvested for this red wine. Following the selective harvest, the grapes were destemmed and subjected to a "cold maceration". The aim of this process is to bind and preserve the characteristic aromas of the Spätburgunder before fermentation.
During the maceration process, which lasts several weeks, the typical freshness of the variety is maintained and the necessary substances and complexity are extracted from the grape skins. The fermentation is constantly monitored to ensure the optimal pressing time and extraction level.
A natural sedimentation removes the coarsest dirt before the wine is stored in barriques for 19 to 20 months - this is also where the biological acid degradation takes place.
Color
A muted garnet red that fades to a softer shade at the edges.
Nose
The 2020 Pinot Noir "R" from the Muschelkalk spoils the nose with sweet aromas of cherries and wild berries, refined with spicy notes of cinnamon, cloves and vanilla as well as Mediterranean herbs. The youthful hint of wood spice is encased by a robust, smoky-spicy mineral note.
Palate
On the palate, the wine presents itself fresh and Burgundian with an entertaining elegance. Fruity, berry and charming notes mingle with the lush mid-palate, accompanied by an invigorating minerality and freshness. The long finish promises plenty of potential for ageing and guarantees an even more enjoyable drinking experience in a few years.
