Wine profile
The 'N' series produces wines that experience their full development in the absence of any limits and without filtration, encouraged by wild yeasts. The letter 'N' stands for Natural, No filtration, No limits, Next Level.
Maturing process
The wine follows a natural rhythm, initiated by spontaneous fermentation in tonneau, followed by an additional spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Once fermentation is complete, it remains on the full lees until the beginning of June and is then separated from the lees by means of fall pressure and bottled unfiltered with a touch of sulphur. Special attention is paid to avoiding high alcohol levels during the harvest in order to allow the fermentation-related fineness, freshness and elegance to take their place.
Vineyard site
The vineyards from which this wine comes are located in the west of the Reiterpfad near the forest. They are unique in that they have limestone alongside the typical red sandstone and clay in their soils.
Colour shade
The wine shows a solid medium golden yellow.
Bouquet
An intense yeast aroma meets an abundance of fruit. Apple, fresh pear and especially orange in all their diversity set the tone. Aeration lets it show its full range and reveals aromas of ginger, lime oil, coriander and privet blossom. Its youthfulness still holds back some of its true beauty.
Taste
The 2020 Riesling Reiterpfad Hochseel 'N' explodes on the palate with fresh, pure coolness and overflows with juicy fruit and expressive citrus notes. It is still somewhat reserved, profound and complex, and surprises with a fine bitterness in the long finish. A little ageing time would flatter it, although its fresh and piquant character is already irresistibly captivating. The use of larger Burgundy glasses and sufficient aeration is recommended if you wish to enjoy it now.
Food recommendations
Try it with a pea and edamame mixture garnished with a miso-lime marinade on rice cakes. As a second option, serve it alongside foie gras terrine with mango chutney and brioche. Or a roasted langoustine accompanied by a sauce of orange, ginger and lemongrass could also come into its own excellently.
