Wine overview
Olivier Humbrecht
In the heart of the Vosges, Clos Windsbuhl draws attention to itself. Thanks to its altitude and proximity to the mountainous landscape, the vines here enjoy slower ripening, which makes ,Pinot Gris a grape variety of preferential importance. Current climatic changes lead to earlier harvest times, which creates a favourable situation for the production of dry wines, as less botrytis occurs.
Processing details
In the past, this vineyard was characterised by later harvests, which often resulted in very sweet wines in the style of a Spätlese. With current climate developments, the pendulum is tipping in favour of drier drops, as the 2021 vintage proves.
Colour characteristics
A brilliant, bright gold.
Scent
The 2021 Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl is a cornucopia of complexity and pure minerality. Quintessence of quince, white peach, ripe pear and a hint of apple skin mingle with notes of white bread crust and freshly whipped salt butter. A faint trace of sea breeze underlines its elegant character.
Taste
A salty note dances on the tongue, accompanied by playful acidity. Fascinating notes of bright yellow fruits and fine malty undertones give it structure and depth. A brilliant Pinot Gris that shines both on its own and in the company of tasty cuisine. Decanting beforehand helps its aromas to unfold and allows it to come into its own in an appropriately sized Burgundy glass at the optimum temperature.
