Wine information

The Chardonnay comes from the 9.41 hectare Premier Cru site Ile de Vergelesses in Pernand-Vergelesses. The site is framed by Savigny's Les Vergelesses as well as Pernand's Les Vergelesses. The quality of the terroir is higher than that of all other Premier Cru sites in the village and is actually at Grand Cru level. The terroir of Pernand-Vergelesses, similar to that at Corton Hill, is characterized by siliceous and calcareous red marl that has a high iron content. The domaine has 13.31 hectares of vines averaging 40 years old, and some as much as 80 years old, in an easterly exposure. The vineyard is planted with Pinot noir as well as Chardonnay.

Nose

Fine and elegant, albeit restrained, presents itself the white Ile de Vergelesses first in the fragrance. Pears are in the foreground, Williams pear especially, and a yellow apple that seems slightly cooked down with a touch of cinnamon. Lemons and pineapple become noticeable with some warmth in the glass, then also a little wood and yeast. The wine seems relaxed and at peace with itself.

Mouth

This almost sensual relaxation is also evident on the palate, where the pome fruit also dominates at first. But also this dominance takes place in the fine, elegant area. The wood becomes a little more obvious here, a banana peeks through and a handful of lightly toasted almonds too. Finally, there's the lively, mineral acidity that adds vibrancy and freshness to the wine. It all fits together very well and is already exceptionally enjoyable.
