Origin

The interplay of climate and soil in the Danube valleys of Kamp, Krems and Traisen forms the basis for the character of the wines. Foothills of the Pannonian climate, named after the Roman province in eastern Austria and western Hungary, bring hot dry days to the area. Cool air currents from the higher altitude Waldviertel region mix and "season" the hot air, which can reach 38 degrees. The soils are also unique and ideal for winegrowing. On the one hand, there is Gföhler Gneiss, the primary rock from which the hills of the Kamptal were formed. On top of this lies brown earth, sometimes with a layer of limestone in between. On the other hand, there is loess, fly ash from the ice age, which has compacted into fertile soil. And finally, there are the clay soils that lie directly on the banks of the rivers. The grapes come from old vineyard sites around the town of Langenlois. The Chardonnay on lime-rich loess as well as the Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc on gneiss weathered soils ripen similarly and complement each other to create a complex, multi-layered wine.

Vinification

Selective hand harvest in 20kg crates at the beginning of September, 12 hours maceration for the Pinot Blanc, whole cluster pressing for the Chardonnay. Spontaneous fermentation in 300 & 2.500 l oak barrels, 2 to 4 weeks at max. 25°C in the small barrels and at 22°C in the large barrels, the Pinot Gris was fermented spontaneously on the skins for 2 weeks. Aging took place in new and used oak barrels, on full lees until February and on fine lees until bottling in August 2019.

Color

Light golden yellow with silvery reflections.

Nose

Still youthfully shy and elegant, the 2018 Cuvée Manhart imparts fruit of melon, apple and citrus, accompanied by subtle notes of anise and lime blossom. The whole is framed in a fine minerality of mussel shells and sea breeze.

Palate

Light-footed and discreet, it glides over the tongue with Burgundian finesse, creamy impression meets delicate acidity and grippy feel. Stringent and with a lot of finesse it glides over the palate, a truly invigorating wine with only 12,5 Vol%. Wonderful companion to classics of the kitchen.

Food recommendation

Enjoy not too cold from the carafe from big glasses, after 1-2 days of previous opening it shows in full beauty.
