Info
The Steinmassl vineyard is between 240 and 340 metres above sea level. The slopes face both south-southeast and southwest.
The soil contains a high proportion of rocky brown earth from a depth of up to 1m, interspersed with a lot of rock from displacements of the Danube. Silicates as well as lime deposits can be found in it.
The grapes were harvested by hand in mid-September 2020 to early October in small 20kg crates. The maceration time was between 12 - 24 hours, depending on the batch.
Half of the vinification took place in steel and half in wooden barrels. The process lasted four to six weeks at a maximum temperature of 22°C.
First, the wine matured for eleven months on the full lees in oak barrels, and then, after a first racking in September 2021, it was allowed to rest for another eight months on the fine lees.

Nose
With this Riesling from the Steinmassl vineyard, Loimer shows so clearly what Riesling on the Danube in general and in the Kamptal in particular can stand for. Far away from fruit baskets and bouquets of flowers, Riesling can do so much more. It is attractive, literally magnetic and magically captivating to the glass. Stony and cool with high elegance. Jasmine tea and oolong flow from the glass. Sage, lemon balm and thyme set accents in herbal and ethereal form. Verbena and mint follow directly behind with the same intentions. Apple and almond blossom round it off very successfully.
Palate
On the palate, it continues seamlessly as the nose suggested. The 2020 Riesling stands for cool finesse. It is as clear as a mountain stream in its aroma language. At the same time, it comes across as very quiet and almost shy. The stony, coolness is obvious. The herbal spiciness is restrained and well dosed. It now lives much more from ethereal freshness, clearly reminiscent of mint and eucalyptus. The fruit comes through very delicately. It reveals hints of grapefruit, lime and mirabelle plum. At first glance....
