Wine Description for Los Magines 2019 by Maisulan

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, slightly transparent garnet red in the glass – a wine that announces its elegance and finesse visually from the outset.
Nose
This Tempranillo presents itself with an intoxicating floral and fresh character. Violet flowers and rose petals meet jasmine, followed by ripe yet crisp dark fruits. The aromatics are rounded out by fresh herbs, notes of warm bread and cooked almonds – a compelling, multi-layered nose that unites tradition and modernity.
Palate
On the palate, Los Magines reveals its true class: elegant, refined, almost sensual. The tannin is present but never dominant, the acidity clearly balanced. The juicy, almost meaty fruit combines red and blue berries with undergrowth, a hint of cinnamon bark, sloe and subtle oak. The wine feels almost tonic, with impressive tension and very good length – a Rioja that prioritises freshness over opulence.
Finish
Clear, fresh and lingering with fine spice and an elegant fruitiness that resonates long after.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the Valdemarra vineyard site in Moreda, Rioja Alavesa, at 480 metres elevation. The stony loamy soil with chalk and the traditional goblet training as bush vines lend this wine its characteristic expression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A field blend made in the traditional manner: predominantly Tempranillo with small portions of Mazuela, Viura, Grenache Blanc and Malvasia. Hand-harvested, spontaneous fermentation at a maximum of 25°C and maturation in French barriques – crafted with meticulous precision.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Excellent with bavette steak with Béarnaise sauce, truffle polenta with salsiccia or a Paella de Verduras. The wine’s elegance and freshness harmonise equally well with grilled meat as with spicy vegetarian dishes.
Special Characteristics
A modern Rioja that deliberately emphasises freshness and elegance whilst honouring the tradition of the field blend – authentic, tension-filled and with distinctive character.
