Color:
Purple with a violet edge.
Nose:
Hollyhocks, mallow and hibiscus are the opening notes, wrapping the nose in a floral robe and lending the dark fruit a certain lightness that easily distracts from the fact that we are at the southernmost tip of the Rhône. Dark fruits such as black cherries and blackberries are underpinned by mild spices such as black cardamom, pepper, tobacco and leather and announce a strongly structured sip for adults.
Mouth:
The palate of the 2016 Le Grand Rouge from Peter Fischer's Domaine Revelette manifests the assumptions of the nose. The fine-boned fruit acts as a leitmotif is grippingly ensnared by tightly woven low-pile tannins. Muscular without steroid excesses is sinewy and well defined, more dancer than weightlifter. Despite its power, it shows itself polished and distinguished and fills the goblets already today to our delight, but tells of a long life.
Food recommendations by Sebastian Bordthäuser:
- Sweet potato gratin with chipotle sour cream and pumpernickel crumble
(Vegetable & Vegetarian, Potato, Casserole, Soufflé, Quiche)
- Grilled mackerel on caponata
(fish, tuna, mackerel, mixed vegetables)
- Entrecôte with anchovy butter and pommes Pont Neuf
(fish, meat, beef, anchovies, sardines, potato)
