Info
2016 K-Lys from Clos Troteligotte is based on 100% Malbec within the AOP Cahors. The soil structure is divided into Kimmeridgian and Causse. The former is well known from Chablis and is a Jurassic limestone from later eras. Causse is a siderolithic limestone that is very rich in iron minerals.
The thirty-year-old vines are harvested manually and processed without any sulphur. With a yield of only 35 hectolitres per hectare, the grapes are selected according to the smallest parcels and all harvests are individually vinified. Long maceration and gentle extraction follow.
The wine is aged for two years in large wooden barrels and another two years in concrete tanks.
Color
Dense ruby red with violet reflections
Nose
Emmanuel Rybinski delivers us a dense potpourri of sour cherry, mulberry and fig. Wet forest soil and fresh mushrooms accentuate the fruit in an earthy way. Stony, cool and dark in appearance. White pepper, cinnamon and clove set clear accents. Lovage, marjoram and sage are present with plenty of spice and intensity. Coffee beans, cedar wood and cigar box seem increasingly intense. Roasted nuts and buckwheat are very versatile. Coriander seed and fennel set the final chord of an exciting nose.
Palate
The Malbec from Cahors delivers an unusually velvety and elegant image. The fruit is enormously juicily integrated. Cool, taut and delicate. Very good balance and with a lot of drinking flow. The tannin is perfectly integrated or perceptible with very fine pores. Next to this silky, elegant robe, it shows animalistic, wild traits. But these are enormously clean and pleasant. Extremely animating warm leather, somewhat horse and inviting. Neither intrusive nor overloaded. A very harmonious, animating Malbec. In the aftertaste, it still shows Mediterranean traits in the form of fig, rosemary, olive and tomato.
