Wine information
Le Mont is situated above the tufa caves and to the east of the Huet vineyard on the first plateau of Vouvray, the so-called Première Côte, and faces south. It is mentioned as early as the 15th century and has been highly appreciated since then. Like the other two vineyards, Le Mont, with its nine hectares, is the sole property of the Huet estate and was acquired by Gaston Huet in 1957 as the last of the three vineyards. It is characterised by the topsoil, several metres deep, and in fact by a pebbly flint, sometimes the size of a fist, which is there perron is called, in deep green clay. The base is the usual Turonian tuff limestone.
The harvest took place in 2020 between 7 September and 25 September. As the vintage was strongly characterised by sun and warmth, mainly residually sweet wines were produced. As usual, the grapes were meticulously sorted, pressed and spontaneously fermented. Malolactic fermentation took place only in exceptional cases and in individual barrels. The wine was matured in used demi-muids. At Le Mont Moelleux »Première Trie« is a wine with residual sweetness, in which the first botrytised grapes have found their way into the wine. In this case, residual sweetness means 91 g/l.

Nose
The Le Mont Moelleux »Première Trie« is a powerful and concentrated »Première Trie« There is no doubt about it. It opens with notes of ripe and browned apples including peel, oranges and their zests, apricot jam, mango chutney and pickled quince. This ripe fruit is accompanied by walnuts and tobacco, herbs and rocks.
Palate
On the palate the Le Mont Moelleux »Première Trie« lush, but also smoky. The fruit is opulent, dense and sweet like a dessert course in its own right, but this sweetness is placed in the context of salty and spicy notes, further accompanied by an underlying minerality and extract. Thus, this Chenin Blanc appears elegant and noble. The acidity is rather restrained here, but still permeates the wine and gives it a pleasant bite. The Vouvray has by no means reached his drinking window yet, but it is very worthwhile to accompany him in his development to full size.
