Wine information

The Clos du Bourg is located above the church of Vouvray and comprises six hectares of vineyards surrounded by an old stone wall - hence "Clos". It is one of the oldest Grand Cru plots in France. It was already mentioned in the 7th century. The flat soil of the vineyard consists of clay with flint and chalk inclusions. It is situated on a typical Turonian tuffeau limestone rock. Here, the vines reach the tufa after only one metre.

The harvest began in 2022 on 8 September and ended six weeks later. As heatwaves and drought led to very heterogeneous ripening grape material, all varieties of Chenin Blanc could be produced, from the base wine for pétillants to 1er Trie. As usual, the grapes were meticulously sorted, pressed and spontaneously fermented during the many harvest rounds. Malolactic fermentation only took place in exceptional cases and in individual barrels. The wine was matured in used demi-muids.

At Clos du Bourg Moelleux »Première Trie« is a residual sweet wine in which the first grapes affected by botrytis have found their way into the wine. In this case, residual sweetness means 105 g/litre.

Nose

The Clos du Bourg Moelleux »Première Trie« offers a wonderful nose. The wine is dense and intense, but at the same time floating. The notes of ripe and freshly sliced mirabelle plums, apricots and peaches, candied and dried fruit, apple peel are combined with white nougat, some apple peel and smoke. The effect is silky, soft, slightly spicy and yet fresh and inviting.

Palate

On the palate, the Chenin Blanc balances between deep fruit and fine flavour, density and lively minerality. The Clos du Bourg Moelleux »Première Trie« is a great wine in the making that presents itself in a highly elegant and seductive manner. The deep pome and stone fruit, the savoury notes of candied ginger and orange peel, the hint of tropical fruit, offer a fantastic richness that is infused with a very straightforward acidity.
