Info about the situation
The vineyards around the former Winkelberg Castle slope southwards and are located on a plateau behind the edge of the Wagram. Beneath the thick, fertile loess cover lie cold-age terrace gravels from the Danube, and again underneath these are clayey-silty, Miocene marine sediments with sand packets that indicate periodic storm events.
Info about the expansion
The grapes were harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously for 2 months in used 2000 l wooden barrels.
Color
Sparkling, intense golden yellow.
Nose
The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Schlossberg 1.ÖTW is expressive with plenty of minerality and an earthy flavour on the nose. After being poured into the carafe, it reveals fruity aromas of apricot, orange and mango. Ethereal notes of eucalyptus, mint and nettle give it a refreshing, cool and complex character.
Palate
On the palate, it is taut, lean and beguiles with its invigorating acidity, which is beautifully embedded in the fruit melt. The juicy density with plenty of play and an extremely stimulating tannin note ensures an impressive drinking flow and makes it a congenial accompaniment to food. Excellent ageing potential!
Decant at this stage and serve in large Burgundy glasses.
