Info
The Pulverbuck vineyard is located at an altitude of 400 metres in Oberbergen at the edge of the forest. The soil consists of heavily pulverised loess on volcanic rock, hence the name Pulverbuck. The active lime in the soil and the slow, gentle vinification have resulted in a unique Pinot Blanc for 40 years.
The wine is matured for 12 months in 50% large wooden barrels and used oak barrels. After this initial maturation, the wine spends a further six months on the lees in steel tanks.
Color
Bright lemon yellow with rich, green reflections
Nose
It calls loudly for a Pinot Blanc from the glass. It alternates between yellow and green. Mirabelle plum and peach dominate at first. Yellow plum, plenty of almondy stones and some marzipan have a supporting effect. Ripe yellow apples and caramelised quince are equally successful additions. Lime and bergamot lend it some freshness and a tart note. A hint of shortcrust pastry mingles with the fruit. A striking green note of sorrel, chervil, lemon balm and lemon thyme.
Palate
The 2021 Pinot Blanc from the VDP Erste Lage Oberbergener Pulverbuck is compact, cool and taut at the same time. A dense, spicy note defines it on the palate. It is full-bodied and only slightly mellow. Its taut structure and appearance, characterised by slight bitterness, are a statement. Fruit becomes almost irrelevant. Pressure and length become dominant. The finish is animating, the acidity enhances it and the aftertaste is characterised by tart, spicy aromas.
