Nose
On the nose, this rarity is extremely matter-of-fact and tidy. Grown on 142-year-old vines with genuine roots, the 2018 CREUTZ from Zehnthof Luckert is all about understatement. Without loud fruit capades and aroma fireworks, it relies on the quiet tones and those notes that are not played in order to attest true greatness to a composition. With enormous calmness it has the depth of a mountain lake and shows itself with some air rather spicy than fruity. With increasing aeration, aromas of mace, clove, a little red apple skin as well as quince pits along with mirabelle plums and pear peel show up tentatively. A wine with immense potential.
Mouth
With captivating greatness from the nose to the finish, this wine impressively proves what greatness means. Grown on pure shell limestone with a light loess layer on the Sonnenberg, it combines power, density and spiciness under the guise of boundless finesse and depth to create a spectacular work of art. Multi-layered with a tightly woven, firm structure and a mouth-filling appearance, it almost seems to burst with inner density and tension on the palate. At the same time it always seems fine and mannerly, never coarse and demanding. It is a wine that does not need to be somehow special. It is simply the way it is. Fermented with the vineyard's own yeasts and aged in quarter-piece barrels, it combines structure, spiciness, saltiness and noblesse in one goblet. Silvaner Directors Cut Special Edition in Cinemascope.
