Wine information
This Silvaner comes from 150-year-old vines with real roots, which the Luckerts recultivated in the Sonnenberg vineyard in a residential area of Sulzfeld. Recultivated because the vines, which of course only produced the smallest yields, had already been partially cut down by the previous owners. The 2021 Creutz is the eighth vintage of this exceptional wine, this original Silvaner, whose name is therefore also written in the old spelling on the label. Instead of vinification in the Doppelstück, the Luckerts use a perennial tonneau of 600 litres for this wine.

Nose
This wine has established itself as a Silvaner monument since its first vintage in 2012. Whereby when you think of a monument, you think of something oversized. This one, however, is more monumental in depth. It is a completely individual wine, where the grape variety takes a back seat to the terroir expression. Give it plenty of air and time! It is not a loud wine, but already in the bouquet it is immensely deep and balanced, hinting at extract, combining mirabelle and peach with tobacco, tiger nuts and pepper, but also with slightly vegetal and herbal notes. There is a scent of yellow and white flowers on top and grated stone and a hint of wood and smoke underneath.
Palate
On the palate the Creutz as if it had been created in a complex pattern on a loom with the finest yarn. Everything is tightly woven. One finds ripe pome and stone fruit as well as many citrus notes including peel. The yellow fruits seem juicy and deep, concentrated and combine with a firm rock and herbal spiciness. Everything is carried by a dense phenolic and lively acidity. In addition, it becomes slightly creamy and mineral in a dimension that is rarely, if ever, found in a Silvaner. Minerality is indeed the central term that comes to mind with this wine. Creutz comes to mind. This electrifying, vibrating quality permeates everything down to the last corner and into the long finale. And yet this primary rock remains impressively relaxed. This is and remains a unique wine.
