Wine information
The Nebbiolo comes from the Cottá vineyard in Neive. The average yield is 15 hl/ha. The vineyard has been farmed organically by Sottimano since the 1970s. The fruit was destemmed and fermented or left on the skins for up to 60 days, with the marc being regularly punched down during fermentation in open stainless steel fermentation racks. Since 2020, the wine has been aged in large, slightly conical vats. The maturation period in the barrel was around 24 months.
Color
quite transparent ruby red
Nose
The 2020 »Cottá« shows its youth in the form of a certain restraint - quite in contrast to the »Basarin«. But this is usual with the »Cottá«, which always needs considerably more time. With plenty of air, it smells of black and sour cherries, bitter almond, a little rosehip and pomegranate, even a little sloe and plum. There are also notes of black tobacco, earth and leaves, mocha and iodine. In fact, it is the only wine among the five Barbarescoswhich still smells slightly reductive.
Mouth
On the palate, it becomes even clearer that the »Cottá« is a long-distance runner that should be given plenty of time. What it does show, however, is excellent a firm, ripe and present tannin structure combined with a lively clear acidity. In addition, there are dark berries, cherries and sea buckthorn, some salt and a taste of forest and undergrowth.
