Wine description for the Côtes du Rhône Rouge „Cuvée César“ AOC 2019 from Roche-Audran

Colour & appearance

A seductive, slightly transparent cherry red with dark reflections presents itself in the glass - the colour already reveals the elegant style of this single-varietal Grenache.

Nose

The bouquet unfolds with juicy sweet raspberries, Wild strawberries and Cherries. Typical Grenache characteristics such as Liquorice and Liquorice are subtle, while Thyme, Mint, Vanilla and Cedar create complexity. An unusual but charming Cherry Coke note rounds off the aromatic profile.

Palate

On the palate, the César convinces with pleasant firmness and fine-grained but distinctive tannin. The lively acidity carries a spectrum of Raspberries and Wild strawberries up to sun-kissed red plums and Cherry juice. Precision and clarity are combined with power and elegance - a wine of remarkable freshness and succulence that perfectly captures the characteristic warmth of the southern Rhône.

General information

Vincent Rochette's César comes from 80 to 100 year old Grenache vines on a three-hectare vineyard with clay-limestone subsoil and alluvial topsoil. Fermented spontaneously at low yields of 35 hl/ha and matured for twelve months in 50-hectolitre barrels made from Tronçais oak.

Food pairing suggestions

Harmonises excellently with Large beef tomatoes from the oven with courgette, rice, thyme and garlic, Roasted duck with root vegetables and oranges or Neck of Noir de Bigorre with dried fruit stuffing.

Special features

An exemplary Grenache that proves that old vines and respectful vinification can also produce wines of impressive finesse and depth in the southern Rhône. The balance between power and elegance makes this wine an outstanding ambassador for its appellation.
