Information about wine
The red César by Vincent Rochette consists of 100 % Grenache. The 80 to 100-year-old vines are located in the Coteaux Versant Nord in a three-hectare vineyard characterised by clay and limestone in the subsoil and alluvial alluvium and gravel in the topsoil. The yield is about 35 hl per hectare. The wine is fermented spontaneously and aged for twelve months in 50-hectolitre barrels of Tronçais oak.
Color
Light transparent cherry red with dark reflexes
Nose
The Cuvée César smells of juicy sweet raspberries, wild strawberries and cherries. The Grenache brings its typical liquorice and liquorice notes, but these are rather subtle next to the ripe, slightly cooked fruit. Instead, there is some thyme, mint, vanilla, cedar and a note reminiscent of cherry coke.
Palate
On the palate, the cuvée appears pleasantly firm with a fine-grained but distinctive tannin and a lively acidity. The fruit ranges from the aforementioned raspberries and wild strawberries to sun-drenched red plums. Cherries are found not only as fruit, but also as cherry juice. All this comes across as precise and clear, powerful and elegant with a lot of freshness and juiciness and, of course, with the typical warmth of the region.
