Nose
On the nose, Matthieu Barret prepares a fruity excursion to the northern Rhône with this Syrah. Sour cherry, cassis, elderberry, blackberry and plum. Intensely fruity and fragrant. The berries seem fully ripe. The pome fruit still provides sour accents. Proverbially, this is "a mouthful of wine". A little pencil and white pepper as well as sage provide a break from this intense fruit.
Palate
Here it shows its true strengths. The expansive fruit does not come across as kitschy or overloaded. Really juicy and infused with a fine acid structure, it shines with astringency and drinking animation. Despite this fruit intensity, it seems light-footed, almost cool and uncomplicated. For a Syrah, one could even use the word "slender". The Petit Ours seems to be wrapped in silk. Perfectly dressed, cool and taut. Very appealing and an absolute all-rounder.
