Wine Description for Riesling “from Red Slate” 2022 1500ml by Clemens Busch
- Colour & Appearance
- A radiant, clear golden yellow, threaded with delicate green reflexes that hint at the freshness of the vintage.
- Nose
- The bouquet is multi-layered and demands attention. After proper aeration, a interplay of fruit and spice unfolds: vineyard peach and red apple meet orange zest. Distinctive earthy notes of beetroot and cedarwood, along with a whisper of cinnamon and nettle, lend it an almost ethereal complexity.
- Palate
- On the palate, the Riesling presents itself remarkably precise and lively. The juicy fruit fullness is carried by a nervy acidity and a deep mineral structure. With only 11% vol. alcohol, it remains aristocratically slender, without losing any expressive power.
- Finish
- A long-lingering, spicy finale, characterised by the typical edge of red slate – dry, demanding and at the same time remarkably invigorating.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the Pünderich vineyard sites Rothenpfad and Nonnengarten. The red clay slate here varies from soft-weathered to heavy-earthy, which gives the wine its characteristic tension between delicacy and earthiness.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- An excellent food companion to beetroot carpaccio with walnuts, smoked trout or a classic veal pie with fresh herbs.
- Special Features
- The 1500ml magnum underscores the enormous ageing potential of this wine. Be sure to aerate generously to unlock the full aromatic spectrum.
