Info

The name says it all. "vom blauen Schiefer" is the second wine from the VDP. Große Lage Fahrlay vineyard within the Marienburg. This parcel is located directly on the ferry landing stage opposite the winery. The blue slate is a significantly harder formation than the red and grey representatives of the neighbouring plots. The vines therefore have to work hard to get nutrients and water to their roots in the soil.

Classic vinification at Clemens Busch, as for almost all wines. The harvest takes place in mid-October at 85-90° Oechsle. Spontaneous fermentation in old wooden barrels with a capacity of 1000 litres. Maturation on the lees for 10 months.

Nose

This Riesling from 2022 is profound and elegant, with fruit, depth, intensity and flavour seemingly in perfect balance. It also reflects its stony origins well. Nettle tea dominates alongside a cold herbal extract. A hint of lychee adds an exotic touch. Ripe, juicy pears and white peach slowly build up behind this - just as juicy. A fine note of cold, wet stone forms its basis. Candied ginger, some grapefruit and medlars provide an unusual but very fitting fruitiness. Lemon balm, lemon thyme and parsley are welcome both in the home garden and in this glass.

Palate

The Riesling vom blauen Schiefer plays at a high level. Its fine feel, its phenolic pressure on the palate and its length are convincing. There is no unnecessary fruit in the mouth. Instead, it is all the more impressive with its complexity, its tension and elegance. A Riesling that is not ideal for beginners. However, it knows how to inspire the discerning and experienced connoisseur. It is dark and taut. The impression of wet stones is once again omnipresent. Its fine bitters provide plenty of drinking animation. This challenges the fruit and offers the acidity structure an equal opponent. There is little fruit on the finish. Herbal spice is only delicately revealed here, but is again characterised by tart accents.
